Happy Feet=Happy Spine

People are often surprised when I ask them if they have foot pain when they come in for a problem with their back.

Feet, as it turns out, provide the base on which the spine sits.  One thing that is very common as people age is gradual pronation or flattening of the feet. This alters the angle of the femur as it enters the pelvis and boom, back pain!

You would be amazed at how many ankles, toes and knees I adjust along with the spine. It is often the deciding factor in the person getting much better or just a little better. Happy feet do equal a happy spine!

Another thing I do a lot of is custom orthotics (shoe inserts) to help correct flat footedness. All it takes is a quick scan to see what is going on with the feet. More often than not the results shock people when they see just how bad their feet are.

Taken together the take home message is back pain often stems from foot problems and we are well equipped to diagnosis and correct this problem.
