3 Tips to Reduce Headaches

Headaches are one of the most common problems people have. And while there can be many causes of headaches there are some simple things anyone can do to reduce the frequency and severity of headaches. This is especially true if someone gets headaches often.

1) Chiropractic Adjustments- This one is common sense for me (I’m a chiropractor after all). The reason is simple. Misaligned bones in the neck and upper back put strain on the neck and head muscles which leads to tension headaches. Pressure on the nerves can also trigger migraines. Getting adjusted is an easy and safe way to manage or eliminate headaches.

2) Hydrate- Yep just drink water. Many people are dehydrated and don’t even know it.  If you don’t drink any water during the day and have caffeine guess what? You’re dehydrated and its making you more susceptible to headaches.  Try having a few glasses of filtered water during the day and watch the headaches wash away.

3) Sleep- As in “get enough of it”. Being sleep deprived sets the body up for failure on so many levels. One of which is incomplete soft tissue healing which increases the odds of muscle strain and tension. Struggling with sleep? Try cutting down on caffeine, turning off any screen 1 hour before bed or a small dose of melatonin (1mg) 30 minutes before bed.
