One of the most frustrating parts of being a chiropractor is hearing this… “I don’t come in unless my back is killing me!”. Basically this is like saying to your dentist “I only come in when my tooth is hurting!” Why do we go to the dentist every few months? So our teeth STAY health. Why do lots of people (myself included) see the chiropractor 1-2 times per month even if there is no pain? To keep the spine healthy.
Most people don’t realize that just because there is no pain that doesn’t mean there isn’t a problem. In fact by the time there is back pain or another symptom such as headaches, numbness or sciatica the problem is already pretty far along.
I recommend regular maintenance care for people because it prevents the spinal discs from wearing out and the spinal joints from developing arthritis. It’s an inconvenient truth that after about 2 weeks of an adjustment the spine is out again due to receptive stress and/or injuries. After those 2 weeks the slow process of wear and tear begin and over time can lead to problems such as herniated discs, degenerative disc disease, arthritis and spinal instability. All these can be be greatly reduced with regular chiropractic adjustments.
Pain relief is just the tip of the ice berg. For a truly heathy spine and thus nervous system try getting 2 adjustments per month. You will be amazed at how you feel looser, more energized and just healthier overall.
