The shoulder joint is one of the most complex areas of the human body. Think about it. How do you not use it? You almost have to use it do even the simplest of tasks. It’s also an area that it is more prone to injury due in part to its crazy range of motion. It sacrifices stability for mobility.
Which leads me to my main point. Can shoulder pain originate in the spine? The answer is yes. How is this so? The shoulder is made of up of several bones which can all be affected by misaligned spinal vertebrae. The collar bone and scapula form the main body of the shoulder joint and both will not move like they should if the mid back is misaligned.
This leads to small but repetitive alterations in shoulder movement and functioning when you go to do something like throw a ball, fold laundry or mow the lawn. At first its not a big deal but over time the small, repetitive incorrect motion leads to inflammation and… you guessed it. Shoulder pain.
This is why I see so many cases of shoulder pain clear up when people start getting chiropractic adjustments to their mid backs. Once the joints in the spine are moving properly they stop negatively affecting the movement of the shoulder joint which is then able to heal and resume normal motion.
