What Causes Tension Headaches?

Tension headaches are a very common type of headache which typically has symptoms like throbbing, tension (as the name implies) or feeling like a vise is around the head. This is probably the most common type of headache. But what causes it?

While things like stress and muscle strain certainly contribute to tension headaches by far the most common cause of tension headaches is misaligned joints in the neck and upper back. This is what actually puts the tension on the muscles leading to headaches in many cases. This process is insidious and can also cause shooting pain up the head or down the shoulder if the misaligned joint is putting pressure on a nerve in the neck.

Fortunately chiropractic is the easiest, safest and by far most effective way to deal with tension headaches! This is because once you align the joints in the neck and upper back pressure is relieved on the muscles which… you guessed it, causes the headaches to go away!
